June 13, 2009 - Hello all. What a blast these past few weeks have been. To start things off we just came back from Texas for the Jr US Open. Besides the heat there was some great skiing. Poochie ripped it in the jump event leaping 143 in the prelims and 137 to take the win in the finals. In addition she also won overall. If that was not enough she tied the Jr Open jump record. Look out ladies Poochie is on her way up. There was another record set by Michale Briant in the tricks event. She easily took the trick honors. Her little brother Josh also had a PB of 125ft in jump. Speaking of PB Little Jenna Morgan jumped 70ft! Next up for the Morgan sisters will take place next weeked in Destin for the Team Trials where they will fighting for the coveted spots on the sub 13 and junior teams.
This past weekend was the LA Night Jam. Jon went to watch Natalia and Zack battle it out in one of the funnest tournaments this season. Natie has gotten her strength back and leaped 160ft in the prelims. The cut off was 161ft, but ladies dont get to comfortable because she is training hard and looking to take the podium by storm! Next up for Natie will be the Worlds in Calgary. Now this is definately crazy, Zack "Big Jigg" Worden just beat out Canada's Ryan Dodd by 1 tenth of a meter to earn his way into the finals. This kid keeps on amazing everyone. There is no room for doubt, this kid is legit. For his first experience in a night event he walked away with a 214ft jump to land him in the 3rd spot behing the likes of Jaret and Freddy! I predict he will have a win this year.
Now comes the big news. If you have not seen it already finally the wait is over. Jon is Waterski Magazine's newest cover shot! He's been ripping it this past few years paying his dues and definately giving the rest of the slalom field a run for their money. After a disappointing fall at the Masters he is training hard and ready to lay it on the line this year. Jon is currently in South Carolina this weekend for the Pro Tour stop. His upcoming events include another stop in Michigan, Elite Team Trials and the Worlds in Calgary. Knowing my brother and his determination I predict he will have podium finishes and a win this season!
